Parent Governor vacancy

We have provision for two parent local governors and there is currently one vacancy.

The local governors are delegated certain functions by the board of Trustees. The local governors are close to and representative of the community the schools serve and are:

  • a valued point of consultation and representation in the development of trust policies
  • the recipients of detailed information about how their schools are being managed
  • tasked with scrutinising management information thus providing assurance to trustees that the school is:
  • operating within the ethos and values of the trust and creating a positive climate for all stakeholders
  • working within agreed policies
  • meeting the agreed targets
  • engaging with stakeholders
  • acting as an ambassador for the trust

No special qualifications are needed and the most important thing is to have a keen interest in the school and be prepared to play an active part in the local governing committee’s work.  Training is available for all local governors and this Board of Trustees has an expectation that those new to being a local governing committee member, attend induction training. We have one Local Governing Body meeting per term, after school, along with a number of Immersion Mornings throughout the academic year. These take place during school hours, typically 09:00-12:00, enabling governors and trustees to develop a thorough understanding of specific and facilitate robust discussion with school leaders.

All individuals governing on the board, regardless of their constituency, are elected or appointed with one common purpose – to govern the schools in the best interest of pupils. Parent committee members are no exception. They are not elected to represent their stakeholder group, but are elected in order to contribute to the work of the governing board in ensuring high standards of achievement for all children and young people in the school, contributing to strategic discussion, holding senior leaders to account by monitoring school performance and ensuring money is well spent.

The attached document summarises the circumstances under which someone cannot serve as a local governor. Nominations must be from parents, or individuals exercising parental responsibility, of a child at one of the academies in the trust.

If you would like to stand for election please click on the 'Apply' button to complete an Expression of Interest and return it to school no later than Friday 24th November 2023.

If there are more nominations than vacancies the election will be by secret ballot. If that is necessary, all parents will be sent details of the ballot procedure.

The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and this position is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure check.
