As QES is a Cumbrian school, all parents wishing to apply for Free School Meals, regardless of what county you live in, should make the application through Westmorland & Furness Council.
Your child will get free school meals if you receive any of the following:
If your child is eligible for and has been registered to receive free school meals between 1 April 2018 and the end of the rollout of Universal Credits (currently expected to be March 2024), they will remain eligible until they finish the phase of schooling (primary or secondary) they are in at the end of Universal Credits rollout. This is regardless of any change to your circumstances.

Time lost by children and young people due to leave in term time can be disruptive to their education. Wherever possible, absence from school should be avoided as it can have a serious effect on your child’s educational progress and can create difficulties for them on their return to school.
From September 2024 new guidance came into place which removes the ability for parents to take their child out of school for an authorised term time holiday.
Please apply for any leave of absence by completing a Absence Request Application form at least 2 weeks prior to the event and return it to the Attendance Team for consideration BEFORE confirming any arrangements. This is to enable your request to be considered against the criteria set by the government and, to allow pupils time to collect any work.
