Careers

The Gatsby Benchmarks are the foundation of the LLT Careers Strategy and play a pivotal role within the statutory guidance for schools, last updated in May 2025.

1.Ā  Ā  Ā A stable careers programme
2.Ā  Ā  Learning from career and labour market information
3.Ā  Ā  Addressing the needs of each pupil
4.Ā  Ā  Linking curriculum learning to careers
5.Ā  Ā  Encounters with employers and employees
6.Ā  Ā  Experiences of workplaces
7.Ā  Ā  Encounters with further and higher education
8.Ā  Ā  Personal guidance

Providing high-quality career guidance at both our schools is vital to our young people so they can make well informed decisions on their future.

Benchmark 4:Ā Every year, in every subject, every pupil should have opportunities to learn how the knowledge and skills developed in that subject helps people to gain entry to, and be more effective workers within, a wide range of careers.

This is one of the most essential benchmarks and you can help raise aspirations by incorporating careers into your lessons.

Since Sept 2022, LLT has used the CDI’s (Career Development Institute) Career Development Framework to ensure we fulfil Benchmark 4. Please take some time to familiarise yourself with this framework and the six learning areas. By looking at LLT Careers Curriculum Plan for 2023-24 you will see the activities and learning outcomes you should aim to achieve within your own subject area as agreed by your careers lead within your department.

Some of the additional ways you can promote benchmark 4 include:

Careers related starter activities
Success at school resources
VIP calls with employers virtually or in person. Link the employer and job role with your learning topic.
Play videos linked to your subject and topic using BBC bite size careers/ A-Z of jobs.
U-Explore Employer led classroom workshops, learn about the topic and careers while building essential skills.

Careers Information

The links below provide careers information tailored to each subject area. They include up-to-date Labour Market Information (LMI), highlight how curriculum learning connects to real-world careers (in line with Gatsby Benchmark 4), and outline key employability skills developed through each subject. This helps students understand the relevance of their learning and explore a wide range of future career opportunities.
