Dear Parents and Carers
I want to wish you all a lovely summer and to thank you for your support of our schools this year. It has been another challenging one in many ways but the end of term was a return to a celebratory Sports Day following our first full Activities week since Covid, which was a great way to end the year. I’m particularly pleased yesterday’s Sports Day took place after the deluge of rain the day before.
This week we have said goodbye to several colleagues. Former pupil and current sports technician Sam Butterworth is leaving to train to be a teacher, (which is great news!), Nick Verney, Head of MFL department and Tom Bayram, Head of Physics are leaving us for posts at neighbouring schools and Martin Hanson and Steve Devitt, Science Technicians, are retiring. We also have colleagues leaving us after a considerable amount of time here. Phil Houghton, Assistant Headteacher, joined us in 1999, Dawn Sargeant, MFL teacher joined in 1998, and Jill Sherry, our Head of Maths has been at QES throughout her professional career, starting here in 1987. These are wonderful colleagues who many of you will know well, some of you may have even been taught by them, and I’m sure you will share the sentiments felt in our goodbyes this week and wish them well for this next chapter.
Last week’s activities week and the previous French and Iceland trips were very busy weeks for pupils and colleagues. We are very aware that disruption of timetables can be challenging for some pupils but the feedback we have had has been incredibly positive and we certainly envisage an Activities Week again next year along with a return to a Community Walk.
I hope your children have had an enjoyable last few weeks of term and that you and your family have some rest and relaxation over the summer holidays.
Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support.
